SEAWEED

The seaweeds are presented among the most productive plants of the word.
To face up to the absence of roots, these marine plants have to develop
particularly effective strategies of development and nutrition.

On the Archipelago of Bréhat, the seaweeds live at the rate of the tides. They
undergo many, abrupt ones and intense environmental variations, while being
subject to the important pressure of the marine predators like the grazers
(winkles...).

Their biochemical ingenuity get them to develop various strategies of adaptation
and struggle absolutely exceptional to resist and survive to the various abiotic
stresses (hydrous, osmotic, thermal...) and biotic (herbivores, mushrooms...).
These strategies led to the setting up of a whole biological arsenal of a remarkable
effectiveness.
